Is Red Card the WORST Map in Call of Duty History? How it compares to others over the years

With the much-anticipated release of Call of Duty Black Ops 6 on October 25th, it didn’t take players too long to let their opinions known on social media about a certain map. The multiplayer maps released on day 1 of BO6 have seen mixed reviews, with some strong and no-so-strong additions this year. Maps like Subsonic and Skyline have become some of the player’s favorites this year already. However, the map, Red Card is already being touted as the worst map in Call of Duty history…

Why is that?

Well, it suits just about one game mode only, and that is Hard Point. With Hard Point spawns adjusted to suit the style of the fast-paced game mode, you will always find yourself near the action, whether you are spawning behind an enemy or they are spawning behind you!

From personal experience, there is too much going on in this map. Playing a mix of Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hard Point, I have found that Red Card simply encourages some of the worst camping imaginable. Too many players just sat in one of many corners, and with so much happening in the map visually, you can barely see half of these players sat on some plant pot.

What are the positives?

As touched on before, Red Card suits Hard Point very well. The concept of the map is great, but with other modes, it just doesn’t flow any near as well. The pitch side area where P5 is based is a fantastic area of the map for all-out action, as is every other Hill on the map. But they’re all in the core of the map? There is so much space on either side of the maps that it just seems like a total waste. Anyway… I personally do not think it is the worst in COD history like many say it is… So let’s also explore some of the worst maps from years gone by.

Top 5 Worst Call of Duty Maps

Red Star – Call of Duty Vanguard

The following maps all share a common theme that you’ll probably pick up on right away. Let’s start of with this banger with Red Star from Vanguard. This map is set in a snowy environment, making it tough to spot enemies. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, it’s absolutely ginormous, about three times the size of a typical multiplayer map, and features buildings with three or four storeys. Trying to play a six-on-six match here means you’d spend a lot of time just searching for opponents.

Piccadilly – Modern Warfare (2019)

Do we need to talk about this one? Literally ask anyone who put any time into this game and ask them the first map that comes to mind and it is likely to be this one… and probably not for good reason. I remember my first game on this map, and having been to Piccadilly numerous times in my life, I had no idea what I was looking. Ran some serious mileage on this map constantly trying to get to the B flag on Domination, all while trying to dodge countless campers in a bus, or from that pesky scaffolding. No love from me here, sorry.

Santa Sena Border Crossing – Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

Look, I haven’t put these in order because they are all terrible in someway, but if I did, this one would top the list, right? Santa Sena Border was just the next map in the line of consistently bad gameplay and lazy map design. I’m not saying every map has to be world class, but this is literally a road full of cars. The cars of which have probably contribute to most peoples deaths on this map. You spawn in, and see a frag appear through the air, cars blowing up and you’re dead 10 seconds into the map. Respawn, and the chain reaction of explosions are starting to pop off from the first initial frag… and you find yourself respawning again before you’ve even fired your weapon. No one is looking for a remake of this map i’m afraid. Enough said, i’m getting cross thinking about it.

Stonehaven – Call of Duty Ghosts

Don’t really have much to say about this map, simply because every time it came up in the map selection, I just left the lobby. When Call of Duty Ghosts initially released, this was the largest map ever released up until that point. So big, it obviously meant that the gameplay was horrid. A snipers paradise, picking off the average player simple trying to rum 200m to get out of their spawn, only to get eliminated when you achieved it. Up there with many players worst maps from over the years for sure.

Numa Numa – Call of Duty Vanguard

I thought I would stray away from taking into account the opinions of the community for this one, and just let me voice my hatred towards this map. That’s okay, isn’t it? I have probably found this map to be one of the most annoying and least enjoyable experiences playing Call of Duty ever. I actually would go as far as saying I quite liked Vanguard. CDL was great for the competitive scene, and there were some top maps available, but this one just straight up sucked from the get go. People hiding in trees, not being able to see anyone in the middle, and getting shot through just about every object made this one a big no from me. Also, if you spawned in the cave while being dominated… Well it was just game over. Three little mineshafts to get out of, and all of them completely exposed you, with no cover, other than an exploding barrel. Nice.
