It’s hard to believe that it’s already been six months since Onslaught captured the imaginations of Destiny 2 players during its launch in April 2024. As if the community wasn’t excited enough, a major revamp is on the way! Get ready for Episode Revenant, set to debut on October 8, which promises to elevate the beloved Horde mode to new heights.
The revamped iteration, dubbed Onslaught: Salvation, was spotlighted prominently in today’s Revenant devstream and will take the lead in this thrilling second episode. With a host of captivating new features, including more defenses, fresh maps, and a variety of enemies, along with tantalizing opportunities to earn extravagant loot, players have a lot to look forward to. During the demonstration, fans saw action unfold in Widow’s Court, a PvP map given a new life for the assault.
Onslaught: Salvation will maintain its classic three variations: the exhilarating 10-wave playlist version, the standard 50-wave version, and the challenging 50-wave Expert version. Starting from wave 30, players have a “small chance” of acquiring a double-boon masterwork weapon, as shared by staff designer Clayton Kisko. For those seeking a real challenge, the Expert difficulty enhances the loot potential by offering even more chests.
Excitingly, new defenses will be at players’ disposal, including a nimble turret equipped with Scorch hits when upgraded, and an air attack module that can transform the battlefield—allowing players to booby trap and rain fire on their enemies. It remains to be seen if these innovations will feature in the standard version of Horde Mode.
Even the once-maligned Tripwires are getting a glow-up! Now, when combined with slowed stasis fields, they will explode with newfound ferocity, and upgrading them allows for the generation of stasis crystals. This revitalization is especially enticing given that the Seasonal Artifact in Revenant is packed with Stasis-related benefits, turning these previously vilified defenses into valuable team assets. These enhancements will apply to the base version of Onslaught as well.
Assault: Salvation accommodates varying power level differences, which means that players might face a tougher initial grind at the start of the episode. However, as players ramp up their artifact levels or climb through the seasonal tier system, the challenge should become increasingly manageable.
But the excitement doesn’t end there! The dev team is also giving the lackluster Mothyards map a substantial facelift. While the revamp is taking a bit longer, according to Kisko, players might not see these changes right when Revenant launches.
So mark your calendars! Onslaught: Salvation is set to make its grand entrance with Episode Revenant in Destiny 2 on Tuesday, October 8. Get ready to dive back in and experience the pulse-pounding action that awaits!
