Black Ops 6 Drops in February Sales Charts, But Call of Duty May Not Be to Blame

Call of Duty’s upcoming Season 3 is shaping up to be a major update, designed to reignite player engagement after a post-holiday dip. And based on recent sales data, it’s an update the game could seriously use.

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana Group released February’s gaming sales analysis, revealing that Black Ops 6 has dropped from the top-selling game in January to sixth place. While this might seem concerning, there’s actually a silver lining.

Despite slipping in rankings, BO6 still held its own against major new releases. It outperformed anticipated titles like Avowed and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, proving it still has a strong foothold in the market.

New Releases Dominate the Charts

The February chart was heavily influenced by fresh titles riding high on launch hype. The top-selling games of the month included:

  1. Monster Hunter Wilds
  2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
  3. Civilization 7
  4. PGA Tour 2K25
  5. NBA 2K25
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Among these, only NBA 2K25 was a previously released title, making BO6 the second-strongest older game in the rankings. While its fall from first place may seem significant, its continued presence in the top 10 showcases its lasting appeal.

Player Engagement Remains Strong

Sales figures aside, Black Ops 6 continues to dominate player engagement. It was the most-played game on Xbox and the second-most played title on PlayStation 5 in February. This suggests that while new players may not be purchasing the game at the same rate, existing players remain active and invested.

With the launch of Season 3, these numbers could receive another boost, especially with the exciting content additions planned.

Season 3 Brings Major Updates to Call of Duty

Call of Duty Season 3 is packed with fresh content aimed at keeping the player base engaged, including:

  • The Return of Verdansk in Warzone
  • New Multiplayer Content for Black Ops 6
  • A Fresh Zombies Map – Shattered Veil

The revival of Verdansk is particularly exciting, as many players have longed for the return of the classic Warzone experience. Nostalgia could play a big role in driving engagement back up.

Ongoing Struggles with Cheaters

Despite its successes, Call of Duty still faces a major challenge—cheaters. The game’s RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system has struggled to keep up with hackers, leading to frustration within the community. Season 3 will need to introduce serious improvements to anti-cheat measures if it wants to maintain player trust.

Warzone Players Demand Change

Another ongoing issue is Warzone’s current map, Urzikstan. Many players have been vocal about their dissatisfaction, calling it “ugly” and “boring.” The return of Verdansk in Season 3 is expected to be a major win for fans who have been longing for the excitement and fast-paced gameplay of the original Warzone experience.

Final Thoughts: Can Season 3 Reignite Call of Duty?

As Call of Duty enters Season 3, all eyes will be on whether these updates can help regain lost momentum. While sales have dipped, the game still boasts strong player engagement. If the new content resonates with the community and RICOCHET Anti-Cheat sees improvements, Black Ops 6 could quickly regain its place at the top.

For now, CoD remains a powerhouse in the FPS world—Season 3 just needs to ensure it stays that way.
