Riot Responds to VCT EMEA Stage 1 Tech Failures
In an official announcement, Riot Games confirmed they are making significant infrastructural changes to prevent future issues. The tournament organizer revealed that they are replacing all stage PCs with newer, upgraded equipment. Riot has already ordered the necessary hardware, with shipments arriving from both the U.S. and Europe.
Technical complaints from players, such as Team Vitality’s Derke, had been growing louder after the incident, with many voicing concerns that the aging hardware was inadequate for competitive play. Derke pointed out that these issues had been raised multiple times in the past without resolution.
“Our team has been working diligently since the postponed showday on Friday to address the technical difficulties during Stage 1. We are upgrading the stage PCs and revising our infrastructure to ensure stability,” Riot shared in their update.
Internal and Pro Playtests Planned
Once the new PCs are fully set up, Riot will conduct internal playtests followed by professional player stress tests to ensure stability under tournament conditions. These tests are scheduled to take place by April 30. Additionally, the game servers will be closely monitored for any abnormalities as players adapt to the new hardware.
If everything proceeds smoothly, Riot expects to resume offline matches later this week. A live audience is expected to return for playoff matches, which are scheduled to start on May 8.
“We recognize that the responsibility is on us now to deliver improved conditions. With upgraded PCs and a thorough infrastructure review, we are determined to get VCT EMEA back on track,” Riot stated.
Refunds and Compensation for Affected Fans
In a positive move, Riot Games announced that fans impacted by the postponed match day will receive a full refund along with several additional perks:
-
A ticket to the VCT Champions Grand Finals
-
Two additional tickets to VCT EMEA events
-
A €300 Riot Games merchandise voucher
-

Many fans have responded positively to Riot’s compensation offer. One fan shared on X (formerly Twitter): “Thanks for taking this seriously and compensating the fans who were there. I love supporting my teams, and this restores some of the faith I had lost.
