CS2 Update Introduces Train and Brings Major Changes to Overpass

CS2 Update: Train Returns with Major Map and Gameplay Changes

After weeks of anticipation, Valve has finally reintroduced Train in the latest CS2 update, marking the return of a beloved map that has been absent since the transition from CS2. This update not only brings Train back but also includes significant changes to other maps like Overpass, enriching the map selection in CS2. Our experts have explored this in further detail below.

Train is Back with a Fresh Look!

Players have been eagerly waiting, and now Train has finally returned to CS2. This isn’t the same old Train, though, it has been given a substantial visual overhaul, featuring a darker, rain-soaked atmosphere for a fresh and unique vibe.

However, Train has not yet been added to the Active Duty map pool due to the ongoing PW Shanghai Major 2024 RMRs. With the event in progress, Valve is holding off on any map pool adjustments for now, but Train is expected to enter Active Duty after the Major wraps up in mid-December.

New Community Maps and Map Rotations

Alongside Train, Valve has introduced several new community maps to CS2. Basalt and Edin are now playable in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes, while Palais and Whistle are available in Wingman mode. Meanwhile, maps like Thera, Mills, Assembly, and Memento have been removed from rotation.

Having played Basalt before its inclusion, our experts can vouch for its engaging design and expect it to become a favourite. Palais also shows potential, though Edin and Whistle are still relatively new for most players.

Overpass Receives Significant Updates

Though Overpass remains absent from the Active Duty map pool, it has undergone considerable changes, suggesting a full reintroduction might be on the horizon. Key updates include the removal of water at “water,” as well as a rework of the Heaven drop-down mechanic, where the barrier now allows players to drop down directly.
