The Thunderpick WC 2024 has its final four teams, following the conclusion of today’s Play-In phase. It’s been a grueling journey for each team, but on November 2nd, they’ll head to Berlin to compete in the LAN Finals. Who are the final contenders? Let’s take a look.
OG Reverse Sweeps BIG
In a dramatic comeback, OG has clinched a spot in the Thunderpick WC 2024 Finals. Initially, they weren’t even set to compete, only joining after receiving a last-minute invite when UNPAID (formerly BLEED) withdrew. Now, they’ve earned a top-four finish and a spot in Berlin.
Their match against BIG started with a loss on the first map, but OG rallied on the second and dominated the final map of Ancient with an impressive 13:1 finish. MoDo led OG’s charge, scoring 59:27, but F1KU’s notable improvement throughout this CS2 tournament has also been key. Heading into the Finals as underdogs, OG may yet surprise everyone if they keep up this level of play.
Heroic Easily Defeats Fnatic
As expected, Heroic secured a decisive 2-0 victory against Fnatic, locking in their LAN Finals spot. Heroic’s recent form has been strong, while Fnatic has struggled to make an impact.
With TeSeS, degster, and NertZ performing at their peak, Heroic has become a dominant force. They enter the Finals as clear favorites, and if they maintain this momentum, they’ll be tough to beat.
The MongolZ Triumph Over Imperial
The MongolZ continues to solidify its reputation as one of CS2’s top teams. Their Play-In battle against Imperial saw both teams trading map wins until The MongolZ clinched the Inferno decider. A powerful CT side on Inferno gave them the edge, securing their final berth with minimal concern.
Notably, three of The MongolZ players went negative across all maps, with AWPer 910 barely coming out ahead. Senzu, however, turned in a standout performance with a 71:43 score, proving instrumental in getting his team to Berlin.
3DMAX Outlasts BESTIA in Three Maps
3DMAX struggled at times against BESTIA, needing all three maps to secure victory in the Play-In. Although they ultimately booked their Berlin spot, they showed vulnerabilities, especially on rounds they should have closed out earlier. After some close calls, they found their stride on Anubis, where they won key swing rounds to seal the series.
