The announcement came as part of a sponsorship renewal between Riot and smartphone company OPPO, which will continue as a global partner for League of Legends esports. OPPO has supported the League’s major events since 2019 and will remain the global presenting partner for both the Worlds and Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) MVP awards.

China previously hosted Worlds in 2017 and 2020, with the 2017 championship spanning four cities—Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing—culminating in a final at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium. The 2020 event was held on a smaller scale in Shanghai due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, China also welcomed the Mid-Season Invitational in Chengdu.

While the specific cities for Worlds 2025 are yet to be announced, Riot has promised further details closer to the tournament date. The announcement was made during the OPPO Find X8 series launch event in Chengdu, where the partnership extension was celebrated.

Meanwhile, the 2024 World Championship is ongoing in Europe, with semi-finals in Paris and a grand finale at London’s O2 Arena. Linkin Park’s official anthem for this year, “Heavy is the Crown,” is set to be performed live at the final.
